Drop the needle!

Gracias a Essie Button y Aslan conocí a theneedledrop y me he vuelto un poco adicta. Aprecio los canales de Youtube que puedo poner y escuchar como si fueran podcasts, mientras estoy pintando o encuadernando así avanzo en el trabajo y siento que tengo distracción auditiva :p
Me encantaría conocer más canales que hagan reviews de música, me parece lo máximo y es el único que he encontrado que, aunque no compartimos gustos exactos, es muy interesante. 

Lo que más me gusta de Anthony Fantano es que escucha de todo y me gusta mucho escuchar los meritos de música que no escucho para nada, por ejemplo nunca he oído el disco de Lana del Rey, Born to Die, ni escucho rap, ni metal muy pesado, pero me gusta saber de que me pierdo y que opina alguien que sabe de música y sí lo escucha. Fantano se fija mucho en los detalles y es super meticuloso en sus reseñas, habla del album como una obra completa, de la melodía, el desempeño musical, los instrumentos individualmente, las letras y al final da su opinión y una calificación segun sus gustos. 

He descubierto a través de su canal muchos grupos y discos nuevos y debo de admitir que me hizo cambiar de opinión acerca del muy hablado Random Access Memories. Aquí hay algunos ejemplos de sus reviews y visiten su canal porque también tiene videos interesantes sobre generos, grupos, etc.

Tommy Edison

Yesterday I found the Tommy Edison Channel on youtube. He is a blind guy who reviews movies and talks about being blind. I find him hilarious and love his reviews. I read a lot of reviews all the time (and write some!) and most of them are not from legitimate film experts, they are just people I read for other purposes and I value their opinions mostly because I like them; I also like Tommy and to be honest I find his reviews a lot more interesting than most of the others, because at least he has a different take on things. He also answers a lot of questions about being blind - in a hilarious manner - and tackles some taboo subjects without getting to heavy and makes me laugh out loud.

Ayer encontré el canal de Tommy Edison en youtube y ya me subscribí y vi muchos de sus videos. Tommy es un hombre que está ciego y en su canal hace reseñas de películas y también habla un poco sobre estar ciego. Vive en Connecticut y a pesar de que allá tienen una vida mucho más sofisticada que aquí en México y Tommy tiene acceso a muchas cosas que aqui los ciegos no pueden acceder, tiene muchos problemas con los que lidiar, la gente que fabrica cosas no piensa mucho en los ciegos debo decir. Pero el canal no es para concientizar (aunque lo haga de todas formas) ni es una queja, ni mucho menos, la verdad es que la razón para ver a Tommy es que es muy chistoso, sus reseñas son muy divertidas y mucho más interesantes que las de la mayoría de la gente por el simple hecho de que se fija en cosas diferentes a las que nos fijamos los que podemos ver, cuando vemos una película. Además los ciegos son un tema un poco tabú, muchas de las preguntas que le hacen son cosas que la gente se pregunta pero no se atreve a decir en voz alta. Yo he estado con ciegos varias veces en mi vida y he platicado mucho con ellos, pero aun así me han sorprendido algunas de las cosas que cuenta. Me hacen reír en voz alta y son muy cortos y divertidos.

Clever youtubers, part II

Vi's channel showed me the awesomeness, which made me think that I could maybe, just maybe, be good at more than one thing. I always struggle internally thinking that if I invest all my energy and 'talent' in photography I'm giving up on drawing and painting or something, it is more a superstitious feeling than anything else.
El canal de Vi Hart me hizo pensar que tal vez es posible que yo pueda hacer bien más de una cosa. Siempre tengo un conflicto interno, pensando que si invierto toda mi energía y mi "talento" en tomar fotos, voy a dejar de poder dibujar o pintar o lo que sea, pero creo que más que nada es una superstición.

Perdón que no hay una traducción en este post, pero como es acerca de los videos de nuevo y están todos en inglés y sin subtitulos... :/

She is a self professed mathemusician has a genius youtube channel where she shares via paper, food, drawings (super talented drawings), flowers, music and monologues her theories about math, education, music, life - but mostly math - and I love it.

Clever youtube channels, part I

Este post no está en español porque los videos sólo estan en inglés :/ Pero les recomiendo mucho que vean aunque sea el de los gatitos y como giran. Está abajo. 


 Just like Mike from the PBS idea youtube channel, mentioned in one of his videos, youtube channels aren't only for minecraft and make-up lovers. That being said, I spend a good part of my everyday life watching make-up (and fashion, and music) videos, I love them. But since I found PBS idea's channel (if you haven't seen it click here), I've realized how much I enjoy watching other youtube channels as well. Channels that have nothing to do with beauty. 
To be honest I believe youtube is a really great place to learn new things, and that was my initial appeal towards make-up videos, I didn't know anything about make-up, but now, I'm pretty familiar with it.

The first video I ever watched from PBS idea, was a possible explanation to the question 'why do so many adults love Adventure Time?', I don't want to earn hate in my first posts - if anyone ever reads them -  but I have to say, I do not  love Adventure Time, I don't hate it either, I've just seen a few episodes but it hasn't made me want to go back and watch more to be honest. I am a big fan of cartoons and animations though, and if you put 'animation' and 'nostalgia' in the same sentence, what comes to my mind is actually Studio Ghibli and the works of Hayao Miyazaki.
 But going back to the channel (http://www.youtube.com/pbsideachannel), what that video did do, was make me want to see the rest of the 'ideas'. If you want to know what this channel is about, they describe themselves as a PBS show that examines the connections between pop culture, technology and art. I don't agree with many of their theories - specifically the art related ones - but I enjoy hearing them, a lot, and Mike, the host, is smart, has a pleasant voice and a cute beard.

 I love this video, I agree with most of what he says about genres (I argue with my boyfriend about genres all the time), but I recommend the rest of his videos as well.

I was through pbs idea channel that I found the Smarter Every Day channel, and (obviously) loved the high speed flipping cats video. The image on top was made for that video. If you browse through the rest of the channel,  you can find a lot of interesting stuff, and even though I don't know anything about physics or math, I enjoyed them, they are meant for the general public, and I think most people would do too (if only for the slow motion cat action :p).

 

Maybe this videos are super popular and I don't even know. I'm curious as to what youtube channels other people follow.
